The Caribbean International Network’s Caribbean Lifestyle Magazine (CLM) is the first television program to conduct a full-length interview with Jamaica’s Prime Minister, The Hon. Bruce Golding.

The purpose of the interview is to offer metropolitan New City’s 18 million television viewers a chance to see an in-depth, extended interview on a range of topics vital to Jamaica. This session revealed the unfiltered truth about the current affairs in the country and what the head of state sees for our future. “In light of the global recession, Jamaicans abroad and at home need to know the status of things,” said Stephen Hill, the head of CIN.

“We were very pleased to have been granted this exclusive opportunity with the prime minister,” said interviewer Clement Hume. “He was candid and most direct in our interview.”

This exclusive interview touched on exchange topics ranging from the nation’s economy, the world of sports, job creation, regional trade, and relations with the US.

The following are two highlights of the Prime Minister’s comments:

On the economy

The prime minister commented, “Because of the fallout we have suffered because of the global recession, we are again forced to borrow from the International Monetary Fund. It has hurt us badly. The IMF doesn’t lend you money to fix roads and pay teachers; the IMF lends you money when you are not able to pay your bills to the rest of the world.”

On sports

When questioned by Hume on what has been called “the rush by the current administration to honor Usain Bolt with the Order of Jamaica,” Mr. Golding defended his administration’s decision saying, “The Great Britain once had a Prime Minister who became PM when he was 23. Now if a white man can become PM of a country as great as Great Britain at 23, why can’t a Jamaican who has done so well, who has electrified the world, become the Honorable Usain Bolt, OJ at 23?"

The entire forty-five minute interview with the Prime Minister will be broadcast unedited on Caribbean Lifestyle TV/CIN TV, channel 73 in the tri-state area on November 1, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. EST in New York, channel 73 (WNYC-TV) in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island and Queens, and is available on Verizon’s FIOS and channel 26 in the New York tri-state area.
For the past 16 years, the CIN has been the only regularly scheduled television service for the Caribbean community in the New York area. The network airs a full menu of news, sports, drama and music programmes created exclusively for the rapidly growing and youthful Caribbean population.
