With Cricket World Cup 2007 less than
six months away, the governing body, the ICC, is focused
on expanding its global outreach in an effort to attract
thousands of cricket lovers to the Caribbean for this
once-in-a-lifetime event.
As
part of its strategy, the ICC has invited Caribbean
International Network (CIN) to promote the event to
the Caribbean diaspora, especially in the New York
area of the United States..
At
an official presentation meeting held on Tuesday at
the ICC office in Kingston, Marketing Manger of ICC
Cricket World Cop 2007, Damon Leon, expressed his
confidence in the bond that has been forged between
his organization and CIN.
According
to Mr. Leon, “We have taken out an advertising
package with CIN, as we have done with other television
stations around the world – and we are confident
that our target market will be reached.”
He
then officially handed over the copy of the television
advertisement to be aired on CIN.
In
his response, CIN’s Stephen Hill said he very
pleased to have been chosen by the ICC and pledged
his station’s commitment to ensuring that the
message would be thoroughly marketed. He noted that
his station was already running promos and editorials
about Cricket World Cup 2007.
He
said that New York represented a huge part of the
diaspora, adding that studies had indicated that the
growing ethnic population in that state comprised
people from the cricket-loving islands of the Caribbean,
and also those from other cricketing nations including
Bangladesh and Pakistan. CIN, Mr. Hill noted, reaches
over eight million people and is aired on Cablevision
and Time Warner in New York. In
closing, Mr. Hill stated, “Cricket World Cup
must be a success, not only for the Caribbean, but
also to show the world that we are the best at whatever
we do.”
